Mass. man treaded water for 2 hours after getting stuck in open pit at construction site

A 43-year-old Cohasset man treaded water for two hours after getting stuck in an open pit at a construction site.

Someone called 911 while the man was still trapped in the open pit at 46 Border St. in Cohasset, which had eight feet of ocean water, according to the Cohasset Police Department. The construction site was in the kitchen area of the old Atlantica Restaurant.

By the time first responders arrived, the man, who works for the LLC that owns a small portion of the building, was out of the pit. But, officials said, he was injured and possibly hypothermic. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The pit was inside a dark kitchen and was uncovered and unmarked, police said.

“The scene was secured and held for Federal Investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), who arrived at the site Monday morning,” police said on Facebook.
