Massachusetts State Police tased a man during a traffic stop after they said he was kicking the Trooper and trying to put the car in reverse.
Police said they attempted to stop a black BMW sedan that was dragging part of its engine cowling on the road on Route 12 in Oxford around 11:10 p.m. on May 28.
The driver, identified by police as Ryan Christian, 35, of Dudley, then sped up and police lost sight of the car, officials said. Christian’s license had been suspended due to a previous OUI charge, according to police.
The Trooper saw the car again as the car was coming toward him. The officer tried to pull the car over again as the road became bottlenecked and his cruiser blocked the way past.
The Trooper ordered Christian out of the SUV. But he could see Christian trying to put the car in reverse, police said.
He then opened the driver’s door, which is when Christian started kicking the Trooper, police claim. The Trooper tased Christian and use other “controlling techniques” to prevent him from putting the car in reverse, police said. Christian required his inhaler after the altercation.
The passenger, identified as Samantha Sweeny, 24, of Webster, got out of the car as Christian was being handcuffed and started reaching back into the sedan to move some items, police said. She was ordered to step away from the car but she refused, police said.
Another Trooper took her from the BMW and put her in handcuffs.
During a search of the car, police said the found knotted bags containing more than 12 grams of fentanyl, a knotted bag containing over 45 grams of cocaine, several suboxone tabs, more than 13 grams of crack cocaine, prescription medications belonging to an unknown person, three knives, forty-seven loose .22 caliber bullets, a sawed-off shotgun and loaded magazine, fifty 12-guage slugs, a .22 caliber short barrel rifle with a spent casing still in the chamber, drug paraphernalia and a digital scale.
Christian and Sweeny do not possess a license to carry a firearm, police said.
Christian faces multiple charges including resisting arrest, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of ammunition without FID, operation of a motor vehicle with suspended license and assault with a motor vehicle.
Sweeny also faces multiple charges including resisting arrest, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of ammunition without FID and interfering with a police officer.
