Mass man sentenced for robbery of market with replica gun

A 58-year-old man will serve three years in prison in connection to a robbery at the Harvard Market in Malden, according to acting U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Joshua S. Levy’s office.

John Schurko, of Malden, will serve two years of supervised release following the prison sentence. In February, Schurko pleaded guilty to a single count of interference with commerce by robbery, Levy’s office said in a statement.

At around 8 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2021, Schurko entered the Harvard Market in Malden and showed what appeared to be a gun. He then went behind the counter and demanded money from the clerk, according to Levy’s office.

Days later, on Dec. 16, Schurcko’s “getaway vehicle” was found in a Medford hotel parking lot, where he was arrested. During a search of the vehicle, police found a black Airsoft gun that looked like a real gun, according to the statement.
