Mass. man sentenced for fatal shooting of 15-year-old

A 21-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years on Wednesday for the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Dorchester in July 2022, prosecutors announced.

The man, Zontre Mack, of Canton, was 18 when he fatally shot Curtis Ashford Jr. Mack was convicted of first-degree murder last month, Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden’s office said in a statement. He was also convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, for which he received a sentence of six-and-a-half years to seven-and-a-half years, to be served concurrently with the murder sentence.

The Supreme Judicial Court earlier this year ruled anyone convicted of murder who was 21 or younger at the time of the crime must receive a sentence with parole eligibility. All murder defendants above the age of 21 are sentenced to life in prison without parole.
