A 53-year-old Boston man was sentenced to prison last week after he pleaded guilty to robbing a CVS store in Quincy in 2023, officials said.
John Gretchen was sentenced to four to six years in prison after pleading guilty to robbing the CVS store. He admitted to forcing a pharmacist to hand over 14 bottles of prescription narcotics and cash from the register, according to Norfolk County District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.
The robbery occurred around 3:40 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2023, the district attorney said.
“A police officer who was on patrol in the area at the time immediately responded to the call. He spotted the suspect, who fit the description of the robber, across the street from the store,” Morrissey said in a statement.
Gretchen, wearing a street hockey mask covered with a medical mask, was arrested after a brief struggle, the district attorney said.
Police found a black folding knife, a laundry bag containing 14 pill bottles of prescription narcotics and cash, in the area where Gretchen was arrested, the district attorney said.
