Mass. man killed in hit-and-run remembered as ‘incredible cook’

A 57-year-old man who was fatally struck in a hit-and-run while crossing Route 44 in Dighton earlier this month was remembered in his obituary as a “talented finished carpenter, a knowledgeable handyman, a great landscaper and an incredible cook.”

Around 10 p.m. on April 4, an off-duty Taunton police officer spotted Paul A. DeMoura in the breakdown lane of Route 44 and called 911, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III’s office said. DeMoura was rushed to Morton Hospital in Taunton, and was later declared dead.

Investigators believe DeMoura was walking west on the side of the road when he was hit by a vehicle, Dighton Police Chief George Nichols said.
