Mass. man killed in crash remembered as ‘fun-loving guy’ who loved boxing

A 26-year-old man killed in a crash in Somerset late last month was remembered in his obituary as a huge fan of boxing who used the sport as a way to battle depression.

Michael Resendes Jr., of Fall River, was killed on May 30 when the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving hit a group of trees near Interstate 195, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Resendes was born in Fall River and later graduated from Bristol Community College with an associate’s degree in accounting. In his obituary, Resendes was remembered as a fun-loving guy who loved spending time with his family and friends. He also loved gaming, animals and fishing.

Boxing held a special place in Resendes’ heart, and the obituary says he “exhibited strength and courage” through the sport as he battled against depression.

“Michael often said, ‘Life is too short.’ Something we all should remember. So please, in his honor, light a candle for Michael and remember to hug your loved ones and tell them you love them as often as possible,” the obituary reads.
