Mass. man arrested after police find 17-year-old girlfriend dead inside home, DA says

Stowe police arrested and charged a 20-year-old resident with assault Friday evening after finding his 17-year-old girlfriend dead inside their home, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

Shane Curry is facing charges of assault and battery on a household or family member and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury in the death of Naveah Goddard, the district attorney’s office said in a press release Saturday evening.

The investigation into Goddard’s death began on April 5 after Stowe police responded to a home on Great Road for a well-being check around 4:30 p.m., the district attorney’s office said. When officers got to the home, Curry stopped them from coming inside for nearly two hours.

When police finally entered the home, they found Goddard dead inside, the district attorney’s office said. Officers arrested Curry at the scene and took him to a local hospital for evaluation.

Authorities are investigating Goddard’s death as suspicious, the district attorney’s office said. The Chief Medical Examiner’s Office is set to autopsy her body to determine her cause and manner of death.

Curry is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Concord District Court and may face additional charges, the district attorney’s office said. The district attorney’s office and Stowe police are still actively investigating Goddard’s death.
