Mass. could see temps reach 50 degrees next week, along with potential rain showers

Massachusetts residents should have a respite from the recent wet and frigid weather this weekend, but rain could be on the way as temperatures climb next week.

Friday night is expected to start off with colder temperatures, with overnight lows largely at 10 degrees or lower, according to the National Weather Service. Exceptions include Boston and New Bedford at 16 degrees, Plymouth at 15 degrees and the Cape and Islands seeing around 20 degrees.

Temperatures around higher terrain are likely to hover at around 0 degrees, forecasters added.

The weekend is expected to see similar conditions as this week, largely dry and with light winds but with temperatures in the mid- to high 30s. Boston should reach 35 on Saturday, 38 on Sunday; 32 on Saturday in Worcester followed by 36 on Sunday; and Springfield should see a high of 34 on Saturday, then 37 on Sunday, the weather service said in a post on X.

Overnight lows should be in the teens and low 20s, forecasters said.

Temperatures climb further starting Monday, with highs at around 40 degrees, the weather service stated. Boston and Springfield should see highs of 42, while Worcester should be one-degree cooler.

Then it gets warmer on Tuesday, with highs in the mid- to high 40s, with highs possibly reaching into the 50s on the coastal plain, forecasters said. A cold front is expected to come in the evening,

For both days, forecasters anticipate conditions to remain dry during this warming trend, though there could be showers between Monday night and Tuesday night.

There should be a drying out come Wednesday morning. By that day, temperatures should continue to be in the 40s, with Pittsfield reaching 40 while Worcester sees a high of 47 degrees, 48 in Springfield and 49 in Boston. There’s a low chance of highs reaching over 50 degrees.

Thursday could see a new storm that also brings highs at 50 degrees if it’s a slower-moving storm, forecasters said. But as this system exits by Friday, forecasters anticipate temperatures dropping again to seasonal levels.
