Marlborough fatal stabbing suspect, victim were in ‘romantic relationship,’ DA says

A Marlborough woman was arrested in Worcester and charged in connection with a 45-year-old man’s death on Wednesday, Aug. 2.

Darlene Carreras, 37, of Marlborough was charged with homicide in connection with the stabbing death of Eric Murray, 45, in her Saint Ives Way apartment, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan’s office announced on Monday in a statement.

Carreras was arrested on Saturday, arraigned Monday in Marlborough District Court and ordered to be held pending a dangerousness hearing, Ryan’s office said.

Marlborough police responded to a 911 call at around 10:32 p.m. from a Saint Ives Way resident, who reported an altercation inside a neighboring residence where a woman was heard calling for help. When officers arrived, police found a man with stab wounds, Ryan’s office said. The victim, Murray, was taken to UMass Memorial Hospital, where he died.

Carreras, who was inside the home with cuts on her hands, was also taken to a hospital and shortly released, Ryan’s office said. Murray’s son was also in the home and was not harmed.

Early findings in the investigation suggest that Carreras and Murray were in a romantic relationship and had been seeing each other regularly. Murray went to her home and an altercation ensued, “during which time Ms. Carreras allegedly stabbed the victim in the chest killing him,” Ryan’s office continued.

After Murray was stabbed, Carreras applied pressure to the wound but did not call 911 and called a friend to come over to help.

The Chief Medical Examiner’s office determined Murray’s death was a homicide caused by stab wounds, Ryan’s office said.

The investigation around Murray’s death remain under investigation. Carreras’ dangerousness hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23.
