A man was rescued after getting stuck in a swamp in Central Massachusetts on Friday, according to authorities.
The Rutland Regional Emergency Communication Center began receiving calls shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday about the man yelling for help on Pitcherville Road in Hubbardston, the Worcester County town’s fire department wrote in a Facebook post. Local police and firefighters were then sent to the scene.
When first responders arrived, they found the man in the swamp, roughly 30 yards from the roadway, stuck in chest-deep water. Firefighters, donning water rescue suits, then rescued the man, according to the department’s post.

The man, who had been in the swamp for more than an hour, was driven to the hospital by an ambulance to be treated for minor injuries and heat exhaustion, the department noted.
“This is an excellent reminder that it is always safest to stay on marked trails while hiking, especially given the amount of rain we have received lately, swamp areas are very deep currently and places normally dry could be water covered,” the post said.
