Man found dead in Mass. backyard had ‘high impact’ injuries, DA says

Officials are continuing to investigate the killing of a man found dead in an Abington backyard on Friday and have identified several persons of interest who were “previously acquainted” with the man, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz announced.

Anthony Leverone, 43, was found unresponsive at 563 Plymouth St. after a relative asked police to conduct a well-being check around 7:25 p.m. Friday. Leverone, who sustained blunt force trauma and “high impact” injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene, Cruz’s office said in a statement. His death is being investigated as a homicide.

Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to Cruz’s office and Abington police have “conducted interviews with multiple people, reviewed surveillance video, and executed search warrants on several cell phones as part of this active investigation,” the statement reads.

A blue Hyundai Sonata sought as part of the investigation into Leverone’s death was found and seized in Taunton, Cruz’s office said.

The persons of interest involved in the investigation were “previously acquainted” with Leverone, Cruz’s office said.
