Longtime Tex-Mex restaurant in Mass. closing after 35 ‘incredible’ years

A longtime Tex-Mex restaurant in the heart of Boston is closing after more than three decades.

Fajitas & ‘Ritas, located at 25 West St. in Boston, said on Facebook Tuesday that the restaurant’s last day of service will be on Saturday, July 13.

“After 35 incredible years, Fajitas & ‘Ritas will be closing its doors,” the post reads. “We want to thank all our amazing customers for the support and memories we’ve shared over the years. Join us in early July to celebrate and savor your favorite Tex-Mex dishes and margaritas one last time. Let’s make these final days unforgettable!”

Established in 1989, Fajitas & Ritas features Texas and barbecue cuisine with offerings such as fajitas, wings, pulled pork, nachos, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, margaritas and more.

“Its namesake specialties include a variety of sizzling fajitas and frosty margaritas at Cheap Eats prices,” Fajitas & Ritas’ website reads. “Enjoy generous portions of fresh and healthy food while you relax in this down-to-earth and funky spot…or… kick back at the bar and sip some ‘honest margaritas.’”

The restaurant is popular among people who frequented Downtown Boston and the Theater District, as shown in some of the comments on Fajitas & Ritas’ Facebook post.

“It will be missed, it was always my go to place whenever I attended a show at the Opera House. Also spent many Saturday afternoons there after our union meetings enjoying the delicious chicken wings along with other appetizers of course with delicious margaritas,” one Facebook comment reads.

“My favorite all time restaurant in Boston Downtown,” another person commented. “Going to miss [it].”

“Literally so heartbroken,” another comment reads. “Thanks for every memory while I was a Suffolk student!”

The restaurant is open Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mondays from 3-8 p.m., Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3-9 p.m., Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
