Listeria in Boar’s Head liverwurst confirmed as same strain in deadly multi-state outbreak

A strain of listeria found in a package of Boar’s Head liverwurst has been confirmed to be the same strain found in people who have gotten sick as part of a deadly multi-state outbreak that began earlier this summer, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The CDC began investigating deli products for listeria after the vast majority of who had become ill as part of the outbreak and could be interviewed by investigators reported eating meats sliced at delis before becoming ill. Those interviewed reported buying meats from a variety of delis, but had most commonly purchased liverwurst, turkey and ham, the CDC said.
