The site features job listings in major cities from around the world, including Boston and other cities in Massachusetts. Below is a list of some open casting calls coming up in Massachusetts.
‘Aluminium Distortions,’ Boston
“Aluminum Distortions” is “an experimental dance short film,” described as a modern adaptation of a classic fairy tale, according to its job listing on Backstage.
The production company is seeking a dancer with experience or interest in contemporary dance and is open to improvisation.
The role open for audition is a female lead, 18 years or older. Shoots will be held in late June and early July in Boston.
Compensation is a flat rate of up to $500 for an estimated 10 hours of work.
‘South Asian SUV Owners, Boston,’ Boston
This documentary series is casting for South Asian vehicle owners between the ages of 25-45. This production is specifically seeking non-luxury SUV owners of South Asian decent in Boston.
The project description states “you don’t need your car but should own it for a documentary style assignment about SUVs in Boston and want to get a few South Asian perspectives.”
Those participating in the project will be asked their opinions and reactions to different vehicles and must be in the Boston area.
At least two roles will be cast for this project, one lead role between 25 and 55 years old, and another supporting role between 25 and 45 years old.
Compensation is a flat rate between $300 and $600 for an estimated two hours of work.
Shoots will take place in Boston.
‘Shadow of the Sun,’ Cambridge
“Shadow of the Sun” is a short crime-drama film. The film explores what happens when “an optimistic young man,” reconciles with his estranged father and is roped into a world of crime and deceit.
This project seeks to fill the role of a young, male extra between the ages of 7 and 14. The person cast for this project is tasked with playing on a playground in the background of a few shots.
Shoots will take place June 18, in Cambridge.
Compensation will depend on experience, up to $100 for an estimated two hours of work.
‘Lanez,’ Boston
“Lanez” is casting for one lead actor, a sound operator and a special effects makeup artist. Shoots will take place June 22 through June 29 in New York City.
“Lanez” is a dramatic short film about siblings who become at odds when their life of crime is challenged by one sibling’s desire to be free of a life of crime after discovering why they’re in this life to begin with.
Those applying for the lead role of Victor should be between 18 and 24 years of age and Latino/Hispanic. This character is the oldest sibling in the family who helps raise his younger sister after the death of their parents.
Those interested in the sound operator position should have some experience and their own equipment. Filming will take place in the Bronx, New York, in the last weekend of June.
Compensation is contingent on the position.
‘Stonegate,’ Boston
This feature film is centered around four urban, teenage explorers who break into an abandoned asylum and uncover a personal secret between them.
Stonegate is seeking to cast three roles — a lead actor between 30 and 45 years old and two supporting actors between 13 and 15.
Shoots will take place in Massachusetts’ north and south shores on weekends in July, August and September.
Compensation has not been disclosed but is a one-time stipend. MDB credit and meals are provided. Apply here.
‘The Day The Knight Died,’ Boston, Lynn
“The Day The Knight Died” is a short student film. It is described as a surreal drama which follows a young father’s stages of grief. It is about a five-page script with about one page of dialogue.
Roles available in this casting are a supporting female between 18 and 22 years old, and a sound operator with basic audio experience, tasked with holding a boom mic.
Shoot dates are to be determined but will take place in Lynn.
Compensation is between $15 and $50 at a flat rate for about one day of work.
‘School Spouses,’ Boston
“School Spouses” is casting five actors to be featured in this rom-com. This feature film follows members of a book club for people whose partners attend a prestigious business school.
Roles available include one lead male and one lead female between 24 and 32 years old, one supporting female and one supporting male role between 24 and 32, and day players between 24 and 32.
Shoots will begin in August and will take place in Boston.
Compensation depends on what position applicants are auditioning for and how many days of work they will be on set.
‘Se7en’, Connecticut
“Se7en” is a feature film shooting in Connecticut but looking for talent from the regent. The film follows a retired contract killed named Cree who “has begun a nice quiet life with a beautiful woman,” after leaving his past behind him.
The official casting post says that what Cree is not prepared for is that not every past can be left behind. He is tasked with finding a way to save his life as well as his former partner.
There are several roles open for audition including the roles of Hector, a supporting male between 25 and 40 years old, Isabella or Brianna, a supporting actress between 25 and 35, Malinda, a day player between 30 and 40, and Paris, a supporting actress between 30 and 40 years old.
Table reads will be via Zoom on July 10, 17, 24 and 31. Shoots will be held Aug. 2-5, and Aug. 9-11, in Connecticut.
Compensation is a flat rate of up to $200, for an estimated four days of work.
