A Massachusetts State Lottery player who said he’s been playing the Lottery his whole life since it started in 1972, won a $25,000 a year for life prize, the Lottery said.
The player, named Brian Leonard of Somerset, had won the $25,000 a year for life prize in a multi-state “Lucky for Life” drawing in June, the Lottery said. He told the Lottery he’d been playing since it was introduced in Massachusetts over 50 years ago in 1972.
Leonard chose the cash option on his prize instead of annuity, and received a one-time payment of $390,000 before taxes, the Lottery said.
The Somerset man had bought the winning ticket in Swansea at the Buffington Mini Mart, at 75 Buffington St., and claimed the prize on the last day of July at Lottery headquarters.
The store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. “Lucky for Life” drawings occur daily at 9:30 p.m., and tickets to play are $2.
