
Led by U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., a group of lawmakers are asking the Department of Homeland Security to explain the detention of a 30-year-old Tufts doctoral student in Somerville on Tuesday.
Rumeysa Ozturk, a Fulbright scholar who had a valid F-1 visa, was taken into custody by six federal agents as she headed to an Iftar, the evening meal to break a Ramadan fast. Ozturk’s lawyer has said she has not been charged with a crime, a claim federal officials have thus far not contested.
