
A music legend has is stepping away from live shows because of “age and memory issues.”
Johnny Mathis canceled all his concerts from June 2025 onwards, according to a statement on his Facebook.
“As many of you may already be aware, Johnny Mathis is approaching his 90th birthday this year,” the statement reads. “So, it’s with sincere regret that due to Mr. Mathis’ age and memory issues which have accelerated, we are announcing his retirement from touring and live concerts.”
At this time, Mathis’ 2025 Voice of Romance Tour will continue. The singer has shows scheduled for April 10 in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania; April 26 in Shipshewana, Indiana and May 10 in Santa Rosa, California.
Mathis’ final show is scheduled for May 18 at the Bergen PAC in Englewood, New Jersey. Anyone who purchased tickets for shows after May 18 will get refunds.
“Johnny Mathis and his entire staff send their heartfelt gratitude to all Mathis fans worldwide for your continued love and support of his music,” the statement concluded. “It’s truly been ‘Wonderful, Wonderful.‘”
Mathis began his career in the 1950s and recorded a variety of hits over the years, including “Misty,” “Chances Are,” “When a Child is Born,” “Wonderful! Wonderful!” and “It’s Not for Me to Say.” He released more than 70 albums, and his “Greatest Hits” collection spent nearly 500 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart.
His music remains popular today with holiday tunes like “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride” and “We Need a Little Christmas.”
Mathis was inducted into the Grammys Hall of Fame and received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy in 2003, according to Billboard. He was also inducted into the Great American Songbook Hall of Fame in 2014.
