SPRINGFIELD — Eight years after former prisoner Lidia Lech suffered a stillbirth and filed suit against her jailers, her case finally was resolved in a settlement last month.
Lech was pregnant and serving time for a probation violation at the Western Massachusetts Regional Women’s Correctional Center in Chicopee in October 2013. She alleged her concerns about her high-risk pregnancy weren’t taken seriously by staff, and that her pleas to go to the hospital were ignored until it was too late, and her baby died.
