Lag B’Omer celebrated with outdoor fun; then a brief rally for Israel

LONGMEADOW — Many members of the Jewish community turned out for Sunday’s Lag B’omer celebration to commemorate the death of revered Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai’s death nearly 2,000 years ago.

The Rashbi, as he was known, wanted his passing to be remembered with outdoor celebrations, because he believed his death meant he was with the creator, a cause for joy.
