Karen Read’s bid to have two of the three criminal charges she faces in the death of her boyfriend dropped was denied by the second-highest court in the nation Thursday.
Read, 45, had petitioned the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn a lower court ruling that found she was not, as her lawyers have claimed, acquitted on charges of second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a crash causing injury or death at her first trial. But the court denied the appeal without a hearing.
