‘Juno,’ ‘The Umbrella Academy’ actor Elliot Page coming to Massachusetts

Actor Elliot Page, known for his roles in “Juno” and “The Umbrella Academy,” is coming to Western Massachusetts for a fireside chat and meet and greet.

On Sunday, May 5th, at 7:30 p.m. Page will be at the Academy of Music in Northampton. The event is part of Transhealth’s birthday benefit.

Transhealth said the talk is expected to be a “powerful fireside chat that illuminates the power of hope, the warmth of joy, and the courage required to live authentically.”

“Let us celebrate, enjoy each other’s company, make a wish, and blow out the candles as we burst with pride and intention into our fourth year of providing life-saving care and community,” the website states. “Our birthday wish? For all trans and gender-diverse people to have the freedom to be their authentic selves and to have access to the compassionate, comprehensive healthcare they deserve.”

Transhealth is a Western Massachusetts-based healthcare organization that offers medical care for more than 2,000 trans and gender diverse people and families, including many from other states.

“We’re living in a time now where people are actively fleeing other states to Massachusetts, to ensure that they can get good medical care,” Dallas Ducar, the organization’s chief executive, told MassLive in August.

As of November, 22 states have a law or policy that bans gender-affirming care for anyone under the age of 18, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

Through these state bans, transgender youth will be prevented from accessing medically necessary, safe health care, according to the Human Rights Campaign.

But there’s also a “dire need” to help those in Massachusetts, Ducar said.

Transhealth said when they did a needs assessment, they found that about 30,000 transgender and gender diverse Massachusetts residents were in need of medically appropriate health care.

In 2020, Page announced on social media that he is transgender.

“After coming out, Elliot received overwhelming support from the LGBTQ+ community and is now using his voice to speak out on issues of violence perpetrated against trans bodies, as well as confronting political leaders who seek to criminalize trans healthcare,” the event website states.

Tickets range from about $40 to $77.98. The VIP meet and greet is $274.09 after fees.
