Things are not going well right now for the New York Jets. Just ask interim coach Jeff Ulbrich.
After his team’s last-minute loss to the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium, Ulbrich was asked what his message to his team was.
“This is a moment of darkness, and we understand that the outside world is going to get really loud right now,” Ulbrich said.

The coach wasn‘t alone in painting a dark picture for Jets. Aaron Rodgers — who knows a thing or two about the topic after his 2023 “darkness retreat” — agreed with Ulbrich’s outlook.
“Yeah, I‘ve been in the darkness. You’ve got to go in there, make peace with it,” Rodgers said.
The Jets arrived in Foxborough in dire need of a win Sunday. With the team built around an aging Aaron Rodgers, New York is in win-now mode. However, the results simply haven’t been there in 2024.
Now, things are going to get tough. As Ulbrich alluded to, the criticism in New York is only going to get louder.
So, how can the Jets coaches bring the team from the darkness to success when — as one reporter asked Ulbrich — “when they don’t know what that looks like?”
“Yeah, there’s a part of it that’s some blind faith when it comes to that, and understanding that all I can do is work, and you stack enough work up in a productive way that it results in the results that we want,” Ulbrich said. “At the same time, we’re going to have to lean on some of these veterans that we have in this locker room, some guys that have been through it and some guys that have rebounded. It’s going to take every single human being in there, coaches, players, support staff, everybody, to get this thing turned around.”
The Jets don’t have much time to try and brighten up their season. They only have four days until their next game, when they take on the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football.
