Ullmark stopped 14 shots to lead Ottawa to the win.
Swayman, who developed a close friendship with Ullmark during their time together, appreciated the reception the Boston crowd gave Ullmark, both before the game and during the tribute video that aired during the first period.
“It was a special game. We share such a special bond,” Swayman said. “Seeing him in another jersey is different. I’m very happy for him and the success he’s having. I expected a game like that back and forth. It’s fun to watch him succeed.”
The two goalies met at center ice between the benches and posed for a picture before the game.
“We knew we were going to meet before. I’m really happy,” he said. “It’s incredible to see the fan base just support us so much and what we created together and just know that it’s never going to be done again in hockey. That’s something we’ll always share.”
Swayman was glad to see Ullmark get an ovation.
“He deserved every bit of that. He’s a talented goalie,” he said. “He’s a great human being. People are going to support that.”
