Right from tipoff, the Celtics were not going to be denied against a clearly overmatched Wizards team. Jaylen Brown rained in 3-pointers while Jayson Tatum broke the 30-point plateau, as well, as the C’s dominated in a 126-107 win over the Wizards on Monday.
The C’s are now 3-0 on the young season after their first blowout win of the campaign. They took care of two tough foes in the Knicks and Heat in clutch games to start the year. The Celtics also never let the Wizards get too close in their victory. That’s a sign of progress as Brown explained the challenges ahead for his squad.

“It’s tough being talented because it invites laziness, it invites complacency,” Brown said, via NBC Sports Boston. “But that’s going to be our enemy this season. It’s going to be us vs. us. Our leaders on the team, we gotta make sure we really emphasize really from the top to the bottom. We gotta run through the finish line.”
The Celtics learned some of those tough lessons last season. They were on top of the NBA world as part of their 21-5 start. Then they ran into a midseason lull, though they finished with the second-best record in the league. Still, there were learning moments as the Celtics found they can’t be careless.
It’s still extremely early in the season; it’s also easy to stick to the script just three games in. But by all accounts, the Celtics have not skipped steps. Training camp and the preseason have been paired with intensity and seriousness. The front office overhauled the roster for a reason, and the C’s feel the urgency to deliver the organization’s next championship banner.
The Celtics, too, are still improving in their own way with the new personnel. But the early returns have immediately impressed between Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday. The C’s will look to build off their play now going forward.
“It’s important that we get off to a good start to this season,” Brown said. “Mindset, mentality is something that we’ve all been preaching. Joe (Mazzulla) has made sure, he’s emphasized that. As a leader on the team, I’ve been making sure that we’re emphasizing that. We gotta get through the finish line. It’s nights like tonight where it’s easy to take your foot off the gas. But if you want to do what you say you want to do, we gotta come out and play the game the right way.”
