Jaylen Brown calls Raptors court ‘unacceptable’ after possible injury

Celtics fans held their breath late in their win over the Raptors on Friday. Despite finishing off the victory, Brown left early after suffering an apparent groin strain because he slipped on the court.

While injuries happen, Brown was far from the only player who was slipping at the Scotiabank Arena court in Toronto. Multiple players from both sides slipped on the Raptors’ in-season tournament court, which is used specifically for these group play games at home. The in-season tourney is a new feature this season, so the NBA rolled out unique courts for all 30 teams to drum up some interest.

However, problems have popped with these courts, and it’s not just the Raptors’ one from Friday. The Mavericks also had some issues, which led to them playing on their traditional court instead. Brown went off when it came to the court Friday.

“The floor was unacceptable,” Brown said, per the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach. “Guys were slipping all over the place.”

The Celtics came away with the victory Friday over the Raptors, improving their record to 2-0 in the in-season tourney in East Group C. The NBA implemented the new tournament this season. There are six groups across the 30 NBA teams, and the winner of each group, along with two wild card teams, will make it to the eight-team bracket play.

All of the in-season tourney games have had flashy courts with the NBA Cup trophy in the middle. However, the issues with the court have been an issue. The C’s will play at least two more games on the in-season tourney courts when they face the Magic and Bulls over the next couple weeks. There didn’t appear to be too many issues with their own in-season tourney court, but that’s something worth keeping an eye on going forward.
