SPRINGFIELD — Springfield fire officials continue to look into an apparent ductwork fire late Saturday afternoon that forced the evacuation of the MGM Springfield casino building as a major celebration was about to begin in a nearby space.
So far, no cause for the blaze has been announced.
A Springfield Fire Department spokesperson, Lt. Brendan Shea, said the department received two alarms on Saturday at 5:39 p.m., one a 911 report of smoke in the building and simultaneously an automated alarm that indicated a sprinkler had been activated somewhere in the building.
