Injury sidelines former Red Sox All-Star for rest of regular season

It’s been a tough week for former Red Sox stars.

Days after the Rangers shut down Nathan Eovaldi for the rest of the 2025 season with a rotator cuff strain, the Padres put Xander Bogaerts on the shelf.

They haven’t ruled out a possible postseason return for their starting shortstop.

The Padres posted the news on X:

“We have placed SS Xander Bogaerts on the 10-day IL with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot and recalled INF Mason McCoy from Triple-A El Paso.

Bogaerts, who played the first 10 seasons of his big league career and won two World Series in Boston, had played 131 games of 132 games for San Diego before the injury announcement.

Bogaerts, who started the season slowly, was hitting .262 with a .717 OPS. He has 10 home runs, 49 RBIs and a career high 20 stolen bases.

The 32-year-old is in the third year of an 11-year, $280 million contract he signed before the 2023 season.

At 75-59, the Padres are in second place in the National League West behind the Dodgers and currently occupy the second wild card spot.
