Ed Sheeran, Tyler Childers and The Killers will headline Boston Calling this year, but they are not the only notable acts taking the stage at the three-day festival.
The headliners will be joined by more than 50 artists, including more than 20 acts from the Northeast.
To highlight these local artists, MassLive will publish profiles on the acts leading up to the festival’s May 24 start date.
Paper Lady
While studying at Berklee College of Music, five students had an indie rock dream. On Saturday, May 25, their band be taking over the Orange Stage at Boston Calling, their biggest show yet.
Paper Lady is a couple of years into the band’s current lineup, so Boston Calling will be a huge team bonding experience for the Boston-based band.
“We are a fairly new band, with this current lineup being together for about three years now,” the band told MassLive. “We feel very honored to have the opportunity to be a part of this festival, we are in great company with all of the other local acts as well.”
Paper Lady is made up of Alli Raina, Will Davila, Rowan Martin, Kenzo Divic and Alex Castile. The members of the 5-piece band met while studying at Berklee College of Music and getting involved in the house show music scene in Allston and Brighton. The band officially formed in 2019.
Drawing inspirations from bands like Broadcast and The Sundays, Paper Lady put out their first EP, “While You Should Be Sleeping,” in 2020 and their second EP, “Traveling Exploding Star,” in 2023.
Paper Lady has since opened for bands like Joywave, Sobs, Quarters of Change, The Beaches, Ovlov and Swirlies. Now the group will play their first Boston Calling ahead of acts like Khruangbin, Jessie Murph and Tyler Childers.
“This will be the largest show we have played, so I think we are all really buzzing as it approaches,” the band said. “Just to be seen and heard by this many people, and have the chance to take the moment in for what it is.”
People can learn more about Paper Lady by going to the band’s website.
Boston Calling will take place Memorial Day Weekend from Friday, May 24, until Sunday, May 26, at the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston.
