When he came out of a Springfield courtroom to a knot of cameras and microphones Sept. 23, Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi offered a public apology for driving drunk two days before.
Cocchi provided a noble-sounding admission that he failed in not “living up to the high standards I’ve set for myself, my staff, and the justice-involved population.” He said he was sorry and pledged to take “full responsibility” for his actions.
