‘I’m mortified’: Song labeled as ‘tearjerker’ makes ‘American Idol’ judges laugh

An “American Idol” hopeful walked into the audition room with a song she called a “tearjerker.”

Instead, it left judges laughing.

Sophie Powers, from Canada, performed a song called “STFU.” The lyrics mostly consist of telling different people to “shut the [expletive] up.”

“I had a pet lizard named George,” Powers started. “He was cool but he made me really bored. So I gave him to my mom.”

As the song continued, “American Idol” bleeped out the words and hand gestures for at-home audiences.

“How do you feel Lionel,” Powers asked after the performance.

“I’m mortified,” the judge responded.

Through laughs, the judges attempted to give feedback and ultimately sent the singer home without a golden ticket.

“You’re interesting. Obviously in the context of ‘American Idol,’ I don’t know where you would fit in,” Carrie Underwood said.

“American Idol” airs at 8 p.m. on Sunday.
