TORONTO — Rafael Devers and Tanner Houck stand out as the Red Sox’ obvious All-Star candidates, with catcher Connor Wong’s offensive performance also putting him in the mix to represent the team at the Midsummer Classic in Texas next month. Jarren Duran, though, should also get some consideration.
Entering Wednesday, Duran ranks eighth in the majors in WAR (as calculated by Baseball Reference) at 3.7. He has the second-most defensive runs saved (9) of any outfielder in baseball, trailing only Toronto’s Daulton Varsho. He leads baseball with 10 triples while ranking third in the American League in doubles (21) and hits (84), fourth in extra-base hits (36), tied for fifth in steals (17), tied for sixth in total bases (140) and tied for eighth in runs (49). On Wednesday, he will start his 75th straight game to begin the season. In the mind of Duran’s manager, he’s a no-brainer All-Star.
