TORONTO — The Bruins were hoping to find the money to keep Tyler Bertuzzi when he became a free agent last summer, but their salary cap challenges proved too much to overcome and he signed with the Leafs.
Nothing he’s done against the Bruins and ever little he’s done on the ice this year has made the Bruins wish it had worked out.

In three games against Boston, two in Toronto and one at TD Garden, Bertuzzi has no points. He had just two shots in just over 20 minutes of ice time on Monday.
So far this season he’s got 12 goals and 16 assists, numbers that were helped by five goals in the three games before Monday after going 19 straight without one.
He’s not the only member of the 2022-23 Presidents’ Trophy winning-Bruins team that has struggled elsewhere. He’s a look at how the players who left have fared. All statistics are from before Monday’s action.
Dmitry Orlov, Carolina Hurricanes — Orlov has three goals and 15 assists and is -4 for the season. He’s coming off a strong February where he was +4 to help counteract a miserable start to the season.
Nick Foligno, Chicago Blackhawks — The Blackhawks traded for Foligno to get a veteran leader for their young team as well as a potential offensive presence. He’s delivered both with 14 goals and 13 assists and earned a contract extension.
Tomas Nosek, New Jersey Devils — Nosek has no goals or assists this year in what’s been a lost year for him. He missed December and January with an injury.
Connor Clifton, Buffalo Sabres — At +10, Clifton has one of the best plus-minus totals on a lousy Sabres team but his one goal and 11 assists haven’t been quite the production Buffalo had hoped for when they signed him as a free agent.
Garnet Hathaway, Philadelphia Flyers — Hathaway remains a grinding, hard-to-play-against bottom-six forward and has six goals and four assists.
A.J. Greer, Calgary Flames — After starting the year on pace for career highs in goals and points, with six goals and four assists in 47 games, Greer has been out with an injury since Jan. 25.
Craig Smith, Dallas Stars — The former Bruins forward has had a mini-resurgence with seven goals and 12 points in Texas.
Mike Reilly, New York Islanders —After being cut loose by the Panthers, Reilly has found a home on Long Island with a career high four goals. His 15 points are four shy of a career-high.
Taylor Hall, Chicago Blackhawks — Hall is out for the season with an injury.
