In two previous matches between Holloway and Poirier, Poirier walked away victorious both times, winning by unanimous decision in their most recent match—a Lightweight Title bout at UFC 236 on April 13, 2019—and in Holloway’s first ever UFC match at UFC 143 on Feb. 4, 2012. That first bout was in the featherweight division and ended in the first round by an armbar submission.
