DETROIT — The Red Sox promoted righty reliever Chase Shugart and second baseman Enmanuel Valdez on Sunday when active rosters expanded from 26 players to 28 players for September.
“This is where we’re at and it doesn’t mean that it’s a set roster the rest of the way,” manager Alex Cora said here at Comerica Park before Boston’s series finale against the Tigers. “We’ve got flexibility. … We’ll take it series by series, I think. That’s the way we’re going to do it, especially on the pitching side.”
