How NL outfielder’s temper has him headed for injured list

Dane Myers’ Saturday went from bad to worse rather quickly.

The Marlins outfielder was ejected in the top of the eighth inning of Miami’s 10-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds after arguing a strike-three call. Once Myers went back into the clubhouse, he kicked a door out of frustration that resulted in a fractured ankle, he told reporters.

“I obviously wasn’t too happy with the call and how things went down,” Myers said on Sunday. “Walking into that clubhouse, took a swipe at the door with my foot and didn’t think I kicked it that hard. But I ended up fracturing my foot.”

Myers, according to the Miami Herald’s Craig Mish, will likely be out of action for six-to-eight weeks.

Despite only playing in 40 games for the Marlins this season, Myers found himself a productive member of the team. He was slashing .265/.337/.422 with two home runs and five stolen bases before his injury. Myers was also versatile, playing in all three outfield positions.

It’s been a tough 2024 for the Marlins — who are just a season removed from making the postseason — and the loss of Myers certainly only adds to their struggles, especially on offense. And with the Major League Baseball trade deadline fast approaching and Miami in last place in the National League East, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them be sellers.
