Despite Drake Maye being a bright spot for the New England Patriots, his rookie season has been met with several losses. The rookie quarterback admitted it’s frustrating, but discussed how he’s able to learn from it and not let the frustration get the best of him.
“Just trying to learn from it, that’s the biggest thing you try to do. I think everybody’s frustrated. We’re all frustrated. I think gotta go through to learn from it,” Maye said during his weekly appearance on WEEI on Monday. “… And thinking about how we played, and then also, same time, don’t shy away from kind of some of the positives of the game. That’s that’s the biggest thing . We’re doing some good things. We’re in a lot of these games.
“You have to get down there, and a few plays away from making this a close games. … Maybe not (Sunday), but there’s turning points of the game where it can turn into a close game, that’s the things that I’m trying to focus on, trying to get the guys to focus on because we’re right there,” he continued. “We’re not far away. I just think the balls aren’t rolling our way right now, and I think part of it’s execution and part of it is just focusing on little details in those moments.”

Although the Patriots are 3-11 going into their Week 16 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, Maye has given the fanbase optimism for the future. While he’s struggled at times and made rookie mistakes, Maye has also shown growth every week.
The Patriots will miss the playoffs for a third straight season as well as finish with a losing record. They can still finish the season on a high note over the next three games — though two of those games are against the Bills — and Maye can continue to show growth as he looks to end his rookie season in positive fashion.
