BOSTON — The NHL 4 Nations Face-Off final featured four Massachusetts natives and three Boston Bruins players on Team USA and Canada.
Here’s how they performed in Thursday’s finale:
Matt Boldy — The Millis native had a strong tournament overall and played 22:24 in Thursday’s loss to Canada. He made smart plays at times, but also had some bad turnovers.
Jack Eichel — The North Chelmsford native came up big for the U.S. on Canada’s first power play of the championship game when he blocked a Cale Makar shot and kicked away a Nathan MacKinnon pass that led to a clear.
Jeremy Swayman — The Bruins goalie was a healthy scratch. Connor Hellebuyck started and Jake Oettinger was Team USA’s backup. Swayman dressed for the Americans game against Sweden on Monday, but didn’t play.
Chris Kreider — Boxford native was slotted into the lineup for the healthy-scratched Kyle Connor. He didn’t make much of an impact on the game and had just 6:25 of ice time.
Charlie McAvoy — The Bruins defenseman was ruled out of the game earlier this week due to a significant AC joint injury and an infection. Team USA still made sure to include him, though.
McAvoy, with his right arm in a sling, read the lineup prior to puck drop. He was then shown on the TD Garden jumbotron later in the game and received a big ovation.
Brad Marchand — The Bruins captain’s limited playing time continued with 12:23 on Thursday. But Marchand still played a role leadership-wise for Team Canada en route to its championship win and Marchand’s sixth gold medal.
Noah Hanifin — The Boston native had a tough overtime for Team USA when he allowed Connor McDavid a lot of open ice in the slot when he scored the overtime game-winner. Hanifin logged 19:24 of ice time and was credited with three blocks.
