*spoilers ahead*
Season two of “House of the Dragon” is coming to an end and “there will be no mercy.”
The final episode of “House of the Dragon” season 2 airs on Sunday, August 4 on HBO and MAX at 9 p.m. ET. Viewers looking to stream it can do so by using MAX or DirecTV Stream. Both streaming services offer free trials for new users and MAX plans start at just $9.99 a month.
With a MAX subscription fans can catch up on every episode that has aired so far and even watch season one too.
Since the war has begun and is in full swing, viewers need to “Choose a side, raise your banner, and hold on for dear life for the season finale,” according to MAX.
According to a description of the second season of the prequel from MAX, “Westeros is on the brink of a civil war, with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively, to sit on the Iron Throne.”
HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel, “House of the Dragon,” takes viewers back to the land of Westeros 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” to tell the story of the House Targaryen.
The prequel focuses on the peak reign of House Targaryen and the civil war, known as the “Dance of Dragons” which takes place about 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen fights for the throne.
For those who have never seen “Game of Thrones” it’s based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Nine noble families play a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, to sit atop the Iron Throne.
For “Game of Thrones” fans who have seen the show, we can expect this prequel to answer a lot of questions about the Targaryen dynasty and what came before “The Mad King” and then later on “The Mad Queen.” For viewers who watched the “Game of Thrones” series from the beginning, they had to wait a long time to see dragons but the good news is, this series is filled with them.
In this series, the King is Viserys Targaryen, played by Paddy Conisdine. According to HBO, “he was chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy, but as we’ve learned from Game of Thrones, good men do not necessarily make for great kings.”
After Viserys dies, the reign is supposed to pass to his named heir, his daughter Rhanerya Targaryen, but his wife takes his dying words to mean he changed his mind and wants his son Aegon Targaryen II on the throne instead.
Season two then pins the two sides against each other causing the realm to divide and sending many people, including dragons to their deaths.
