Holyoke schools emerging from receivership armed with transition, strategic plan

HOLYOKE — After nine years of soul searching, the Holyoke school district has emerged from receivership more efficient, nimble and ready to reclaim local control, state and city leaders said Tuesday.

The Holyoke School Committee and the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education met at Holyoke High School to review progress on the district’s capacity plan and share new goals and achievements.

“I finally feel like we have gotten to that point” to retake control, said Holyoke Mayor Joshua A. Garcia.
