HOLYOKE ― Tessa Murphy-Romboletti, the first woman to lead Holyoke’s City Council, has locked in a second term and is calling all councilors to the table — literally — for a retreat aimed at aligning priorities and defining the city’s next chapter.
When her second term starts in January, she will invite councilors to a half-day retreat to help set shared priorities, she said in a statement.
She said her next term will focus on working together and setting a clear plan for Holyoke’s future.
“Last month’s election results made one thing very clear: the people of Holyoke want a government that works together toward a common purpose,” Murphy-Romboletti said.
She said she is honored to have her colleagues’ trust again and wants to bring people together to focus on serving Holyoke residents.
She said she will announce committee assignments early in January so subcommittees can keep meeting without delay.
“I’m looking forward to working closely with every member of the City Council as well as Mayor (Joshua) Garcia to define what we want to accomplish in Holyoke and who we want to be as a community,” she added.
She said her next term will build on work started by Garcia, like setting citywide priorities, department goals and clear plans to reach them.
The council’s job will be to make sure policies, resources and oversight match those goals, she said.
“When we work together, across branches of government and across political differences, we make progress,” Murphy-Romboletti added.
