Here’s why a comedy icon won’t be playing Tim Walz on ‘SNL’ this fall

When Vice President Kamala Harris selected Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate speculation began about who might portray the vice presidential candidate on “Saturday Night Live.”

To many, the choice seemed obvious: SNL alum and comedy icon Steve Martin. The calls to tap Martin for the part apparently reached the show’s executive producer, Lorne Michaels, who offered him the role.

But Martin told Michaels he wasn’t interested.
