Here’s which Massachusetts beaches are closed on Father’s Day

Nearly 20 Massachusetts beaches were closed for swimming on Sunday, June 16, due to the presence of dangerously high bacteria levels or cyanobacteria blooms, according to the state’s beach closure dashboard.

Two beaches in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood were among those closed. Savin Hill Beach and Tenean Beach both had high bacteria levels on Sunday.

On Cape Cod, only two beaches were closed — Attaquin Park on Mashpee-Wakeby Pond in Mashpee and Pilgrim Lake in Orleans. Both were closed due to cyanobacteria blooms.

Waushakum Beach in Framingham may be closed for an extended period of time, as on Sunday, it had both high bacteria levels and a cyanobacteria bloom. Additionally, both Walden Pond in Concord and Beaman’s Pond in Templeton had multiple beaches closed due to high bacteria levels.

The state’s beach water quality dashboard is updated twice daily — once in the morning and once in the afternoon. It shows the results of recent water quality tests at beaches across Massachusetts. More than 1,100 public and semi-public beaches are regularly monitored.

State officials warn against swimming or entering the water at any beaches listed as closed on the dashboard, as doing so could cause illness. Other recreational activities are still safe to engage in at the closed beaches.
