Here are the best days to get married, start a diet or stop smoking

Getting married on Sept. 6? Then the stars (or the moon) have aligned for your special day.

The Farmer’s Almanac is known for its weather predictions. But it also provides the “best days” to start a diet to lose weight, cut hair to increase growth, plant vegetables, quit smoking, wean babies, mow grass to slow growth and more.

It states the best day to get married in September is on Friday. But don’t start a diet until Sept. 9 or wait until Sept. 30. And if you plan on weaning your child from their pacifier or bottle consider starting on Sept. 22 or Sept. 30.

The Farmer’s Almanac’s founder, Robert B. Thomas, started included this information in the beginning. It is based on “The Man of the Signs,” which represents the belief that each “astrological sign of the zodiac influenced a specific part of the body.”

“… the phases of the Moon determine the most propitious times for weaning a baby, planting certain vegetables, making sauerkraut—you name it. Providing an insight into the timing of day-to-day activities was a major function of the Almanac,” Jud Hale, Editor Emeritus of The Old Farmer’s Almanac, wrote.

Of course, if you need a bit more time to plan your wedding, there are also a few dates in October. The “best days” to get married next month are Oct. 2-3 and Oct. 29-30, according to the Farmer’s Almanac.
