A Massachusetts Air National Guard member is being remembered for his “resilience, intelligence, and determination.”
Pierre D. Dushime, of Natick, died on June 25 “while serving our country,” according to a GoFundMe for funeral expenses.
Family and friends remembered him for “his sharp intellect and unwavering determination to overcome obstacles.” The GoFundMe also talked about his love for basketball.
“Pierre had a deep passion for basketball, where his competitive spirit and drive shined brightly. Known for his disciplined approach to life, he was meticulously organized both mentally and physically, a testament to his commitment to excellence,” the GoFundMe states.
It aims to raise $20,000 for funeral expenses and “other necessary arrangements.”
Gov. Maura Healey ordered that the U.S. flag and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts flag be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Wednesday in honor of Dushime.
His funeral on Wednesday will have full military honors, according to his obituary.
