As fire spread up the side of a historic Cape Cod inn, a front desk clerk is credited with helping save the inn by springing into action.
The The Dan’l Webster Inn & Spa clerk saw the fire through one of inn’s security camera’s around 12:54 a.m. on June 11. They immediately pulled the fire alarm box and called 911, according to the Sandwich Fire Department.
The inn, located at 149 Main St. in Sandwich, has been open for 300 years, according to the inn’s website.
The fire started outside the kitchen area and spread up the side of the building by the time firefighters arrived two minutes after the initial call.
The quick response allowed kept the damage limited, a press release stated. The fire was under control about 30 minutes later, the fire department said.
People staying in that part of the inn were moved to different rooms but allowed to return back inside after the fire. One person was hospitalized with smoke inhalation, according to the fire department.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, officials said.
