Frigid temperatures, gusty winds to persist in Mass. on Wednesday under bright skies

Frigid, gusty weather will continue across Massachusetts on Wednesday — but the state is finally in for some sunshine.

By daybreak, temperatures were well below average for early April with wind chills making it feel like the teens and 20s, according to the National Weather Service.

Most of the state had clear skies this morning and while the wind speeds dropped down overnight, 25 to 30 mph gusts lingered in some areas, forecasters said.

That “full sun and cold air” is expected to last throughout the day, and while breezes may continue or pick up in the morning, wind speed should die back down later on.

Temperatures could bump all the way back up to mid-40s by the afternoon for lower elevations and cities, forecasters said, and higher elevations could see temps in the lower 40s.

However, temperatures are expected to “fall quickly after sundown,” back to the 20s on Wednesday night, forecasters warned.

Thursday’s daytime predictions are still uncertain as of Wednesday morning, but the state could see a warm-up to the tune of degrees in the upper 40s and low 50s, forecasters said.

Forecasters are also monitoring a “soaking, wind-driven rain” storm for the weekend, kicked off by potential light rain on Thursday night.
