Want to make a day trip somewhere in Massachusetts when the weather is nice?
The Highland Street Foundation announced August Adventures, a monthlong list of museums, historic sites and zoos to visit in August, where admission is free depending on the day you go.
“August Adventures returns! 31 days, 31 events, 100% FREE!” the foundation said on its website. “August Adventures 2023 provides access and opportunities to new and old partners highlighting the geographical and cultural diversity of the Massachusetts arts and culture community.”
Established in 1989 by the McGrath family, the foundation and family have both contributed more than $200 million to hundreds of remarkable non-profit organizations, according to the foundation’s website.
The Children’s Museum of Greater Fall River is the first free museum of the month open to the public on Tuesday, followed by the New Bedford Whaling Museum on Wednesday, Aug. 2. Registration is required to visit some locations, while tours with the Innovation Trail on Aug. 11 are sold out.
Participating locations span all across the state, from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy in Chatham to the Children’s Museum in Holyoke. Here is the full list of events to check out during the month of August.
