Former Patriots QB wants team to ‘jump’ on this player in NFL draft

What the New England Patriots will do with the third pick in the 2024 NFL Draft is unknown, but there’s certainly plenty of intriguing options.

A quarterback would be beneficial to the Patriots, but so would a receiver.

On the latest episode of “Eye On Foxborough,” 98.5 The Sports Hub’s and former Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak joined MassLive’s Karen Guregian and shared his thoughts on who he thinks New England should target. And while he “fell in love” with Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., Zolak thinks the Patriots would better benefit from a Day 1 starter.

“Ask me a year ago and I’m saying take Caleb Williams. You ask me now? You’re sitting there at three and Marvin Harrison Jr. is available? You jump on it,” Zolak told Guregian. “You jump on him.”

The Chicago Bears hold the No. 1 pick and might target Harrison Jr., as well. But they could also elect to draft a quarterback despite having Justin Fields. He’s shown flashes of his potential, but the Bears continued to struggle.

The Patriots, much like the Bears, would benefit from drafting someone like Harrison Jr — especially if he can impact the game immediately. Both teams have important decisions to make that could help the direction of their team after a disappointing 2023 season.

Zolak isn’t alone on wanting the Patriots to take a serious look at Harrison Jr. Two-time Super Bowl champion Deion Branch put out a plea for his former team to select the wideout in a previous “Eye On Foxborough” episode.
