Former Celtics guard works out for East rival (report)

All Isaiah Thomas wants to do is continue his NBA career, and it looks like he’ll at least get a few more looks from interested teams. The former Celtics guard worked out for the Bucks in Las Vegas with Summer League going on, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Thomas, 35, last played in the league for the Suns to finish out the 2023-24 season. He suited up for the G League Salt Lake City Stars for a handful of games before signing with Phoenix for the rest of the season. Thomas played in six games for the Suns, averaging 1.3 points and 0.5 assists.

Now, the former C’s fan favorite is looking to get another shot in the league. Per Charania, the Bucks also worked out some other NBA veterans, including guys like Hamidou Diallo, Justise Winslow, Will Barton and more for a shot at a training camp invite. The Bucks are looking to get back to the mountaintop as they had another disappointing first-round exit to the Pacers as Giannis Antetokounmpo couldn’t suit up in the playoffs due to injuries.

Of course, Celtics fans remember Thomas even though he was already in Boston for a short period from 2014-17. The 5-foot-9 guard electrified the league in his two full seasons with the Celtics, being named an All-Star in 2016 and 2017, along with a top-5 MVP finish for the 2016-17 season.

Thomas has been vocal about wanting more NBA opportunities even though he’s no longer in the prime of his career. After a G League game in Utah back in March, Thomas said he feels great and is playing injury-free. He’s also looking to be that veteran voice for a locker room at this stage in his career. And clearly, he still hasn’t given up a shot to continue his playing career.
